IBM provides System x and BladeCenter servers upgrade

Hardware Manufacturer IBM has updated its server products: the System x and BladeCenter servers have faster processors on board, and IBM has a trick to improve performance of Opteron built.

The System x3755 is the first server in the list of products produced by IBM have been updated. The server had three processors in the Shanghai series of AMD on board. The three Opteron 8384 processors have a clock speed of 2.7 GHz and support 12GB memory. IBM has a so-called CPU Pass Through Card included: the hardware fits into an Opteron socket and includes a co-processor Hyper Transport speed should improve as three Opteron performance of a system with four processors should match. Another technique that the performance of the IBM servers improves, the so-called Xcelerated Memory Technology, so the memory that the 8 DIMM slots can be put at 667MHz instead of 533MHz can work.

The BladeCenter E chassis has newer hardware on board. The frame can accommodate fourteen blade servers in 7U enclosure. The four power supplies of the E chassis can each 2000W or 2300W, and a module to the consumption measure is built. IBM also has a DVD player and USB ports, which all blade servers can be used in the BladeCenter built. A BladeCenter E with two 2000W power supply costs in 3665 dollars, while the version with heavier power costs in 3999 dollars.

In addition to the IBM servers are an assortment of hard drives update. In the System x servers and the BladeCenter can hot-swappable 2.5 "SAS drives with a capacity of 146GB effort. The disks, with a 6Gbps-sas interface, running around 15,000 rpm, while IBM's previous 146GB drives on 10.000rpm running. In addition to traditional disks in the servers also SSD with 50GB capacity to be successful. Prices of SSD and hard drives IBM was not yet known, however, the storage products available from March 31.
