Intel to launch 2GHz Atom Z550 and Z515 Processors
Intel has unveiled two new Atom processors, the Z550 and the Z515, both aimed at the rapidly epanding MID(Mobile Internet Device) space at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing.
Intel has expanded the Silverthorne Atom family with new Atom Z550 processor which runs at a clock speed of 2GHz. Intel’s low-power single-core processor code-named Silverthorne is meant for ultra-mobile PCs and Mobile Internet Devices. The new Z550 processor is different from the Atom Z530 found in MSI U110/U115 or Fujitsu LifeBook. The other Intel Atom Z515 processor runs at clock speed of 1.2GHz and incorporates Intel’s new Burst Performance Technology that enables the CPU to run at top speed when required. Basically, the Atom Z515 is meant for the existing ultra-sleek MIDs.
Anand Chandrasekher, Intel senior vice president and general manager of the Ultra Mobility Group, also mentioned that Nehalem architecture based processors on the "Calpella" platform for laptops will be available in the second half of this year. These new Calpella platform processors will incorporate Intel Hyper Threading and Intel Turbo Boost Technology.
