Tutorial for using Internet Explorer as FTP Client

Initial Window
This is the Internet Explorer (IE) window with which you are most likely familiar. What you might not know is that IE can be used as an FTP client. Start by clicking in the address bar and erasing the URL shown.

Address Bar

Once the address bar has been cleared type your domain with "ftp." in front of it as shown below. Then click 'Go' or tap the 'enter' key on your keyboard.

Authentication

Next IE will ask you for the username and password that go with your hosting account. Type these in and then click the 'Log On' button.

Finding the File

The first part is now done. Resize your Internet Explorer window so that the left half of your desktop is visible. Then navigate to the folder where your HTML files are kept. If my HTML documents had been saved inside the My Documents folder, that is the window I would need to open.

Uploading

Now that we have opened the folder we are ready to upload. Place the two windows side by side as shown. Then drag the HTML document from one window to the other.

File Transfer

IE will now copy the file from folder on the hard drive to the hosting server. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection this may take some time.

Final Screen

The default document now appears in the window on the right along with the other contents of the hosting directory. Upload is complete.
