Differences in the use of the internet between the younger and older generations.
The 1990's and the present day have brought fourth tremedous advances in the use of communication and information process available to a person on the computer. People can now communicate with others across the world with just a press of a button. But yet surprisingly in the real world there are two different kinds of people. Those who want to be educated and advanced in the new technological wonders and those who wish to stay a dinosaur and live life easy hard and simple.
"On weekends I would say that if I can help it, I dont use the internet at all." This quote from Joseph Elliot of the play BecauseHeCan clearly shows the differences between youth and the elderly or middle aged in computer usage. As a youth, youths use the computer as a activation devise that lets all of there freinds know where they are, what they are doing and whats going on. A youth will also use the computer an enormous amount during the weekends because they are not in school to congregate and are let to fend for themselves with there social climbing. While on the other hand the adult will rather stick to the telephone a more outdated version but none the less gets the job done with contacting others.
Perfectly and simply put most adults have trouble comprehending the new ideas of the 21st century which is why they are reluctant to use it. While as the youths and future leaders of our nation are becoming so involved in it that soon the older ways of communication and research will be long lost. Adults and youths habbits may be different though due to different lifestyles, with adults working from nine to five and having five to six day a week jobs where youths go to school then go hang out. The behavior habbits also come into play with the internet when you know what type of schedules the adults and youths are running on, which are totaly different. Hence their internet and computer uses are totally different.
Hierarchy and Class War
Throughout the ages of our world the human being has undergone many changes and struggles. One of these struggles is the Hierarchy of human beings. The ablitity to place a certain person based on his or her education, family, money and appearence into a category or class. The class system is directly involved in hierarchy. A person can be cast into a class which is then divided into a hierarchy. The problem still remains in many different countries throughout the world that have not evolved as quickly as the United States. But even in the United States there is a silent Class system that takes place, between the super rich, the wealthy, and the poor.
"Did you say anything about those obscene phone calls to Paris?" This quote taken from the play BecauseHeCan represents a key statement of the hierachy and class sytem in america. This simple and relatively boring quote from Joanne Elliot is explicit in its form and function. Firstly the mechanics of the speech are extremely well thought out and uses big words, such as obscene. This implies that she has undergone some type of education in her life so far. The second part that sticks out to me is the fact that she talks about calls to Paris. Only the wealthy and rich can make calls to paris. With that said alone it shows that she is allready educated and rich eventhough not making calls to Paris.
The Class system is something that should not change. Although you may feel very awkward about that I do not. Not everyone can be super rich or poor, or for that matter equal. Everyone must have there place in society without it there would be no society. The hierarchy of classes throughout society do often change though which is a good thing, from technological advances to playing the stock market. The class system makes up what we are today and although some of it may seem unfair it is in the long run for the best of society as a whole.
Outcasts and ostracism
Another issue that involves society and people as a whole is the banning away or getting rid of certain individuals. As of now the United states has a vast number of prisons throughout its nation. These prison's hold what we as society views as outcasts, degenerates, and problems. The way we as people deal with these problems is cast them away from us, away from society. Isolated in there own world of there mind and a 6 by 8 cell. Now as of criminals and problems we put them in prisons, but what about the certain individuals that are just in our words "different"? We also cast them out, but out of clicks and social settings, forcing them to be on there own and inside grow a hatred for those who are populaur and what we consider "normal".
"If you choose, you don't have to stay. You can leave a surrogate behind, sometimes called a sniffer." This quotation taken from Costa Astrakhan from the play BecauseHeCan. Being different from society Astrakhan views himself as special and unique and develops a one on one relationship with his computer. He is dispersed from his college class taught by a Mr. Joseph Elliot and begins a distructive phase of ruining his life.
Astrakhan is ostricized from his college class and ultimaetly society he has trouble adapting with others and is alone in the world. But he does get his revenge on society as do most indiviuals which is why most degenerates take out there anger on law binding officials.
